Reflex Nutrition Instant Mass Heavyweight is a British weight gainer that’s designed to help hardgainers and those with a high calorie requirement get the quality nutrition they need to bulk up.

With over 1,000 calories per serving—including 60g of protein and 195g of carbs—this Reflex mass gainer certainly looks promising based on the nutrition label.

But where do these ingredients actually come from? And will they lead to real results in muscle growth and strength development? You’ll soon find out in my Reflex Nutrition Instant Mass review.

I decided to buy a tub to do some testing and analysis. And in addition to the benefits, I’ll also discuss the taste and mixability in my review, so that you can get an idea of how usable this Reflex weight gainer actually is.

Reflex Instant Mass Ingredients

Before we get into how the ingredients can benefit your body, here’s a quick overview of the nutrition label, based on the tub of Chocolate Perfection that I have in front of me.

Nutrition Facts

Each 300g serving of Instant Mass by Reflex Nutrition contains:

The Reflex Instant Mass nutrition facts
  • 1088 calories
  • 195g of carbs
  • 60g of protein
  • 6.6g of fat
  • 14g of sugar
  • 4.5g of fibre
  • 3g of creatine
  • 1g of l-glutamine
  • 100mg of choline
  • 5mg of BioPerine® Perine
  • 50,000,000 spores of LactoSpore® bacillus coagulans

Now I can see why Reflex Nutrition refers to their mass gainer as a heavyweight; this supplement is loaded with mass-building ingredients.

Protein Mixture

A scoop of Reflex Instant Mass 5.4kg

Most mass gainers with 1000 calories only have 40-50g of protein, so it’s good to see that Reflex Nutrition is ahead of the game, equipping Instant Mass Heavy Weight with a solid 60g of protein per serving.

The whey protein, which is rapidly absorbed into the bloodstream, is from grass-fed cows. As such, you’re getting the absolute highest-quality protein that money can buy.

There’s also hydrolysed whey, which digests even faster than whey concentrate, making Instant Mass the ideal post-workout shake.

As if that wasn’t enough, Instant Mass also includes milk protein, which is naturally 80% casein protein and 20% whey. Casein is a vastly underrated protein source that maximises muscle growth by providing your muscles with a consistent supply of high-quality amino acids, helping you to stay in an anabolic (growing) state for much longer.

Carbs and Fats

This Reflex heavyweight gainer is loaded with 195g of quality carbs so that your muscles can stay full and pumped, helping you to look bigger both in and out of the gym.

Having such a high amount of carbs aids in post-workout glycogen resynthesis, which is an underrated part of recovery. Now that your muscles will be full of glycogen when you take Instant Mass, you can recover faster and do more training volume in the gym, which ultimately leads to greater hypertrophy.

I like how Reflex Nutrition has included plenty of carbs for weight gain and muscle growth without going overboard.

So many other brands include 300+ grams of carbs (and barely any protein), which, in a single serving, is completely unnecessary for most people.

This Reflex Nutrition mass gainer also has 6.6g of fat. Although it’s good to get plenty of healthy fats in your diet, you don’t want a mass gainer (or any bodybuilding shake, really) with loads of fat because fats can slow down protein absorption, which isn’t what we’re looking for after a workout.

Creatine and Glutamine

A tub of Reflex Nutrition Instant Mass Heavyweight alongside a scoop and shaker bottle

Each serving of Reflex Instant Mass Heavyweight has 3g of Creapure® creatine monohydrate and 1g of l-glutamine.

Creapure creatine is one of the purest forms of creatine on earth and is both easily and quickly absorbed into your muscles, helping you to increase your strength and power output in the gym.

While 3g is a decent dose, I prefer to take 5g to cover my bases. Obviously, you can just take a couple of extra grams per day to make up the shortfall.

But, to be fair, some smaller individuals might do better on 3 grams of creatine than on 5 grams.

As for glutamine, one gram isn’t a lot, but I’ll take it as an added extra. Glutamine can help to reduce DOMS, but with 60g of quality protein already, it feels like this added glutamine is just for show.

Absorption and Gut Blend

As I noted in the ingredients section of my Reflex Nutrition Instant Mass Heavyweight review, this weight gainer contains 5mg of BioPerine® and 50,000,000 spores of LactoSpore® bacillus coagulans.

While these ingredients might not seem particularly beneficial for bodybuilding, they can indirectly help you build more muscle by maximising nutrient absorption, helping your body to make the most of all those proteins and carbs.

This Reflex gainer also includes various vitamins and minerals for overall health. This is good to see because so many other high-calorie sharks are basically devoid of nutrition other than the big 3 macros (proteins, fats, carbs).

Reflex Nutrition Instant Mass Taste and Mixability

Now for the part of my Reflex mass gainer review that’s the most subjective; taste.

Reflex Instant Mass Heavyweight is available in 6 standard flavours; Blueberry, Chocolate Peanut Butter, Chocolate Perfection, Salted Caramel, Strawberries & Cream, and Vanilla Ice Cream, as well as two flavours with Reflex crunch pieces—Cookies & Cream and Chocolate Rocky Road.

The results of making a Reflex Instant Mass shake

I tried the vanilla flavour years ago but don’t remember much about how it tasted. This time around, I went for Chocolate Perfection. Would it live up to its name?

While I can’t say that it tasted like a gourmet milkshake with ice cream and sprinkles, it did taste much better than your average mass gainer or protein shake.

I’ve heard mixed Reflex Instant Mass reviews with regard to flavouring, so I was pleasantly surprised that the chocolate flavour was so drinkable.

The mixability was also on point. I mixed 300g of powder in 700 ml of water and then, next time, with 700 ml of milk. And with a good, vigorous shake each time, I managed to mix up the power without any clumps.

That said, I do have a supply of big shaker bottles. So you might want to use a blender instead if you’ve only got shaker bottles in standard sizes.

As a side note, if you want to see a shake that tastes really good, then I definitely recommend reading my Kinetica Oat Gain review after this.

Reflex Instant Mass Side Effects

To keep this Reflex mass gainer review completely transparent, let’s talk about the potential side effects of this supplement.

Information detailing the Reflex Instant Mass side effects

As you know, Instant Mass Heavyweight, as its name heavily suggests, is a high-calorie bulking shake. Because of this, some people might feel bloated or experience some GI distress after drinking a shake, especially if they’ve never taken a mass gainer before or have poor lactose tolerance.

Reflex Nutrition actually recommends starting with half a serving (150g of powder) initially if you’re new to the world of weight gainers,

Obviously, if you drink (or eat) 1000+ calories in a sitting, then you’re going to feel quite full, so this isn’t a fault of Instant Mass; it goes for any high-calorie nutritional shake, such as PhD Advanced Mass.

Besides some potential bloatedness, this Reflex Instant Mass protein shake could also lead to excessive fat gain if you drink too much of it.

One Shake Per Day: Considering the powerful muscle-building ingredients contained within Reflex Instant Mass, you really don't need more than one shake per day.

I like that Reflex Nutrition only recommends one shake per day, which is really all you need, considering the potency of this proven weight gainer.

So many other unscrupulous brands encourage you to drink 2-3 thousand-calorie shakes per day so that you have to buy their supplement more frequently.

I’m a big believer in getting the majority of your calories from whole foods, so make sure to use Instant Mass as a supplement to your diet.

Reflex Instant Mass Results and Benefits

Like with any supplement, your Reflex Instant Mass results will vary based on your training experience, workout intensity, consistency, and overall diet quality.

That said, this Reflex Nutrition mass gainer contains everything that you could ask for from a weight gain supplement. Many users report gaining a good amount of weight and seeing noticeable changes in their physique in a short space of time.

Of course, as time goes on, your results might begin to slow down a bit. This is normal, as the body can’t endlessly build muscle at a rapid rate.

Taking Instant Mass on a daily basis helps you to create the calorie surplus that’s crucial for weight gain. I recommend taking it even on rest days because this is when your muscles are really growing.

Not only will Instant Mass Heavyweight help you to gain size, but it’ll also help you to recover quicker because it contains quality protein and carbs, which, nutritionally, are the foundation of any post-workout recovery regime.

One of the standout features of Reflex Nutrition Instant Mass Heavyweight is that it’s very affordable in comparison with other gainers.

While some people might say that you’re just paying for a bunch of carbohydrates, lots of carbs are exactly what hardgainers need to overcome their fast metabolism and put in weight.

And besides, Instant Mass has 60g of protein, which is more than enough for most lifters to gain muscle and see results, especially in the context of a post-workout shake.

The bottom line is that for less than a meal out, you can get a big bag of Reflex Instant Mass 5.4kg.

Or, if you just want to give it a try, you can get a 2 kg tub like I did.

Which Reflex Weight Gainer is Right For You?

Let’s compare the 3 Reflex Nutrition Mass Gaines to where each of them excels.

A trio of Reflex mass gainers positioned side by side

If you just want the most amount of calories for your money, then go with Instant Mass Heavyweight.

If you want a weight gainer with an incredibly high amount of protein (110g per serving!), then go with Reflex One Stop Xtreme. It has almost as many calories as Instant Mass, but with a different protein-to-carbs ratio. For more information, you can read my full Reflex One Stop Xtreme review.

If you want a 390-calorie post-workout recovery formula that has 38g of protein from hydrolysed whey and 56g of quality carbs, then go for Reflerx Growth Matrix. This is a good supplement for lean bulking or for those who don’t have extreme calorie requirements. Again, you can see my Reflex Growth Matrix review for more info.

Should You Take This Reflex Mass Gainer To Bulk Up?

As I’ve explained throughout my Reflex Nutrition Instant Mass Heavyweight review, this weight gainer is ideal for hardgainers who need a convenient calorie source to bulk up and gain the muscle mass they desire.

Of course, if you don’t need a shake with 1,000 calories, then Instant Mass probably isn’t for you. As a point of comparison, Sci-Mx Total Mass uses lower-quality protein than Instant Mas but has around half the calories.

But if you like the idea of being able to get 60g of protein and nearly 200g of carbs from a single, well-mixing shake, then this Reflex Mass Gainer is a great option for British buyers.

Hopefully, my Reflex Nutrition Instant Mass review gave you some good insights into this affordable yet effective supplement.
