I tried this supplement roughly 6 months ago and have just got around to doing a full PVL Sport Gainer review to discuss the pros and cons.

This PVL Sport mass gainer has a robust formula to help you pack on mass. And while it might not have the same reputation as some of the big brand gainers, it still packs a good punch in terms of effectiveness.

PVL Sport Gainer Overview

This PVL Sport weight gainer is aimed at athletes who want to get extra calories in their diet. Tested for banned substances and carrying an Informed Choice certification, this weight gainer has a very clean ingredient list that health-conscious gym-goers will definitely appreciate.

With no artificial sweeteners or flavourings (stevia leaf extract is used for flavour), PVL Sport Gainer is clean and green with no junk ingredients.

Per 4-scoop serving (216g of powder), you get the following nutrients:

  • 860 calories
  • 160g of carbs
  • 8g of sugar
  • 4g of fibre
  • 40g of protein
  • 7g of fat

The carbohydrates come from maltodextrin, barely, quinoa, sweet potato, and brown rice. Since the carbs are listed in this order on the ingredient label—and since there’s only 4g of fibre—I’m guessing that most of those 160g of carbs consist of maltodextrin.

In terms of protein, you get 40g per serving from whey concentrate, whey isolates, and whey hydrolysate. All of these whey proteins digest quickly, making them ideal for a post-workout shake or for wherever you need a rapid protein boost.

There are also MCTs from coconut oil, which digest faster than regular fats because they have smaller molecules.

Overall, I like that PVL Sport Gainer has a simple ingredient list with quality nutrition. My only complaint is that the carbs-to-protein ratio is a little low for my liking. Products like Optimum Health Ultimate Gainer contain upwards of 50g of protein per serving, which is ideal when you’re consuming a high-calorie shake.

Will PVL Sport Gainer Help You Put On Weight?

Obviously, no supplement alone is going to transform your body. However, with over 800 calories per shake, this Pure Vita Labs mass gainer can certainly help to increase your body mass in a safe and effective manner.

The biggest benefit of this PVL mass gainer is that it’s a quick source of protein and calories. If you don’t have the time or appetite to eat loads of extra whole food calories to gain the weight you desire, then a supplement like PVL Sport Gainer can help you to gain body weight and muscle mass.

Just make sure to drink your shakes consistently. Being in a calorie surplus for one day won’t help you gain weight. But if you eat in an energy surplus for a couple of weeks, then you might notice some pretty nice weight increases.

PVL Sport Gainer Mixability and Taste

What I like about PVL Sport Gainer is that it tastes more natural than your typical weight gainer. I can only presume this is because of the absence of artificial sweeteners, which really aren’t my cup of tea.

The flavours (I went for Creamy Vanilla) are pleasant but not overpowering. While I have tasted better gainers in my time, I can’t complain about the flavour of this powder.

As for mixability, I was pleased to see that this PVL Sport weight gainer mixed well in both milk and water, which makes the shakes really drinkable.

I followed the usage instructions and mixed 4 scoops with around 650 ml of water, which meant using a larger shaker cup.

If you prefer, you can use a blender, which will give you a smoother consistency. However, a large shaker cup works almost as well, and using a shaker bottle enables you to bring your gainer to the gym with you to get quick post-workout nutrition.

Who Should Get PVL Sport Gainer?

If you want a shake with clean ingredients and enough calories to support your weight-gaining goals, then PVL Sport Gainer could be a good supplement for you.

While it may not have the mass-building extras that you get with other bodybuilding-orientated weight gainers, such as Mutant Mass Extreme, this simple weight gainer still contains good dosages of the key macronutrients that your body needs to increase its weight.

Also, if you’re an athlete who wants an Informed Choice mass gainer, then PVL Sport Gainer is a suitable option because it's tested for banned substances.

Who Should Avoid PVL Sport Gainer?

On the other hand, if you’re a massive hardgainer or a seasoned bodybuilder, then you might want a higher-calorie mass gainer with more protein.

In this regard, you can read my Boditronics Mass Attack Heavyweight review or my Boditronics Mass Attack Juggernaut review to see some other good options for bulking.

Also, if you just want to maintain your weight or gain very slowly, then you might benefit from a lower-calorie shake.

Finally, if you follow a plant-based diet, then PVL Sport Gainer probably isn't right for you as it contains whey protein.

Conclusion: Is this PVL Weight Gainer Right For You?

While no one supplement can cater to everyone, I think that PVL Sport Gainer has a very wide appeal because of its calorie density and clean ingredient profile.

So whether you’re a professional athlete or just want a reliable supplement to increase your body weight, this PVL Sport mass gainer is a good option.

Providing 860 calories, 160g of carbs, and 40g of protein, this high-calorie shake could be the quick calorie source that you’re looking for.

I hope that you found my PVL Sport Gainer review helpful. I hear that this supplement is quite popular in Canada, so if you’re based out there, it could be worth a try.
