Ingredients and Nutrition Facts

Although many weight gainers will definitely increase your body weight, a lot of them are full of sugar and low-quality protein sources like soy.

Mass gainer amino acid breakdown

Thankfully for our health and weight gain success, this gainer from Nature's Best uses only the highest quality ingredients, such as whey protein and oats.

With 20 servings per bag, this mass gainer offers excellent value for money, with one shake working out at less than £1.50, which is cheaper than many UK fast food burgers.

Here’s what you get in each shake:

  • 354 calories
  • 39.7g of protein
  • 34.8g of carbs
  • 5.4g of fat
  • 3.9g of sugar
  • 5g of creatine
  • 2g of beta alanine
  • 1.5g of HMB

Whey Protein

Whereas many brands use soy protein and cheap filler amino acids to cut costs, Nature’s Best opts instead for a proven combination of whey protein concentrate and whey protein isolate.

A chocolate weight gainer

What this means for you is that you’ll gain muscle mass more easily because whey protein is rapidly absorbed into the bloodstream, which also helps you to recover from your workouts faster.

With almost 40g of quality protein per serving, it’s no surprise that this weight gainer from Nature’s Best has 8.8g of BCAAs, including 5g of leucine—the crucial amino acid that’s responsible for stimulating muscle protein synthesis.

Overall, this weight gain shake has more whey protein than many dedicated protein powders!

This just goes to show that you don’t need to buy from the big bodybuilding brands in order to get yourself a good muscle-building shake.

Carbohydrate Blend

A bag of mass gainer

This mass gainer from Nature’s Best contains 34.8g of easily digestible carbohydrates from oats and maltodextrin. It’s also one of the only weight gain shakes on the market to contain more protein than carbs, making it excellent for building muscle as well as gaining weight in general.

The maltodextrin digests quickly so that your muscles can receive rapid glycogen replenishment after a workout, helping you to recover faster and increase your body weight quicker.

On the other hand, oats digest more slowly and provide your body with a steady supply of energy so that you don’t go hungry and miss out on potential weight gain.

And with only 3.9g of sugar, you won’t get a big energy crash after drinking this mass gainer.

With such proven and healthy ingredients, this supplement is often said to be one of the better weight gainer supplements for teenagers that you can get.

Creatine Monohydrate

The powder inside a bag of weight gainer

With 5 grams of creatine monohydrate per serving, this mass gainer from Nature’s Best is definitely not a creatine free weight gainer. However, that’s actually a good thing. Why?

Because creatine draws water into your muscle cells and makes you gain weight.

Creatine also helps you to do more reps and sets in the gym and lift heavier weights, which further enhances your weight gain efforts by increasing your muscle mass.

This weight gainer from Nature’s Best is actually one of the only supplements to include a full 5g creatine dose, which I honestly wasn’t expecting given the price of this product.

Creatine is backed by decades of research and is easily one of the safest and most effective sports supplements that you can take—especially if you want to gain weight and muscle mass naturally.

Beta Alanine

A person opening a bag of mass gainer

While beta alanine won’t directly make you gain weight, it will help you increase your body weight indirectly if you lift weights.

Like creatine, beta alanine needs a chance to saturate your muscles in order to show its best effects, so you need to take it consistently for a few weeks to see any benefit.

However, when the benefits of beta alanine do kick in, your muscles will have an increased work capacity, enabling you to perform more reps, which ultimately leads to greater muscle growth and increased body weight.

If, for any reason, you’re looking for a weight gainer that’s free from beta alanine and creatine, then check out our Women's Best Complex Weight Gainer review for a good alternative.

Beta-hydroxy beta-methylbutyrate, better known as HMB, is a leucine derivative that helps to prevent muscle catabolism.

Whereas whey protein is anabolic in the sense that it triggers new muscle growth via increased protein synthesis levels, HMB is, in contrast, anti-catabolic in that it limits protein breakdown.

Muscle growth (and thereby weight gain) comes down to maximising protein synthesis while minimising protein breakdown, which is exactly what the combination of whey protein and HMB achieves in this weight gainer by Nature’s Best.

Taste, Flavours, and Mixability

This tasty and calorie-dense shake from Nature's Best is available in chocolate, vanilla, or strawberry flavour. In other words, the 3 classic “ice cream flavours” that you see with most protein supplements.

A serving of chocolate mass gainer

I went for the chocolate flavour, and I have to say, I really enjoyed drinking this weight gainer. It tastes a bit like a chocolate milkshake, except not as sweet or artificial. There was no weird aftertaste either, which was a huge plus.

The mixability is also spot on, meaning that this gainer didn’t have that overly thick, gritty taste like similar supplements tend to do.

While I was able to mix this mass gainer in a shaker, a blender will ensure you get the smoothest possible consistency, and lump-free shakes every time.

I think one reason why this shake mixes so well is that, although calorie-dense, it’s not as carb-heavy as some other weight gainers, which lends itself to easier blending and mixing.

How To Use This Weight Gainer Properly

Nature’s Best recommends mixing 4 level scoops (100g of powder) with 500 ml of water or skimmed milk.

A weight gainer from Nature's Best

Using water will give your shakes a thinner consistency, whereas mixing the powder with milk, which is my preferred option, will give you a thicker, creamier shake while also boosting the protein and calorie content.

Now, if your sweet tooth isn’t as strong as mine, then you can definitely still get a great-tasting shake with just water. However, if you really struggle to put on weight, then mixing it with milk could be a good option (and you can use any milk).

As for how often and when to take it, Nature’s Best advises using this supplement as either a post-workout shake or as a snack between meals.

On training days, they say that you can take 2 servings in one day if required. That would give you an extra 80g of protein and 700 calories, which would contribute nicely to your weight gain efforts.

So, whether you should take 1-2 shakes per day comes down to your calorie requirements and how fast you want to gain weight. I’d stay with 1 shake and then switch to 2 if needed.

Who Should Use This Weight Gainer By Nature's Best?

If you want to build muscle mass and gain weight, then this weight gainer from Nature’s Best is a fantastic option because it uses quality protein and complex carbohydrates.

Whether you want to really bulk up or just healthily increase your body weight, this calorie-dense nutritional shake has the ingredients to fuel and support your weight gain journey.

If you often struggle to get the necessary calories and protein from your regular meals, this safe and proven shake will be a massive helping hand.

Also, if you’re fed up with drinking sugar-laden weight gainers from brands who spend more money on their packing than their ingredients, then this weight gainer from Nature’s Best will feel like a breath of fresh air.

Finally, this mass gainer from Nature’s Best is suitable for just about anyone. These are great weight gainer shakes for females, and yet, a dedicated bodybuilder could also benefit from drinking them.

Who Should Give This Weight Gainer A Miss?

If you’re just trying to maintain your current weight, then this supplement probably isn’t right for you. Although it doesn’t have an extreme amount of calories, the pure yet potent formula is designed for those seeking to gain weight and muscle mass.

Also, since this weight gainer is designed to be used in addition to your regular meals, it’s not suitable as a meal replacement. While it does have plenty of protein and carbohydrates, it’s not fortified with the vitamins and minerals that you’d get with a specialised meal replacement shake.

The Verdict: Is This Weight Gainer A Good UK Supplement?

A mass gainer in a cardboard box

This weight gainer from Nature’s Best really does tick all the boxes. It has all the protein that a bodybuilder could want from a shake, and yet, it’s perfectly suitable for ordinary men and women who want to safely increase their body weight.

Unlike other gainers, this mass gainer from Nature’s Best isn’t loaded with filler ingredients and cheap carbohydrates. Instead, Nature’s Best has elected to fill their weight gainer with nutritious and weight-increasing ingredients like whey protein, oats, and creatine monohydrate.

Overall, this is a fantastic supplement for gaining weight. And at the current low price, I like it even more.
