If you’re looking for a weight gainer with loads of calories, then I think you’ll enjoy this Naked Mass vs Serious Mass comparison.

On the one hand, we have Serious Mass Weight Gainer, which is a tried and tested supplement that thousands of people have used to put on muscle mass.

Then, as I noted in my Naked Mass review, we have a very unique weight gainer in Naked Mass, which has just 3-5 ingredients in the entire supplement formula, depending on which flavour you get.

With this in mind, let’s see whether Naked Mass or Serious Mass is the better choice for your fitness goals and weight-gaining ambitions.

Naked Mass vs Serious Mass: Main Differences

A frontal Serious Mass vs Naked Mass comparison

Nutritionally, Serious Mass and Naked Mass are extremely hard to separate because they have very similar macros.

To keep things simple, I’m going to use the unflavoured version of Naked Mass.

Serious Mass has 1263 calories, 251g of carbs, 50g of protein, and 5.5g of fat per 334g serving, whereas Naked Mass has 1250 calories, 252g of carbs, 50g of protein, and 2.5g of fat per 321g serving.

So, they’re pretty much identical, right?

While it seems that Naked Mass has modelled its macronutrition formula on Serious Mass, the actual ingredients used are a bit different.

Naked Mass uses organic tapioca maltodextrin, whereas Optimum Nutrition just specifies “maltodextrin” on the ingredient label, so I’m presuming that the maltodextrin isn’t organic. Because organic maltodextrin is derived from cassava root, it’s naturally gluten-free, which could be advantageous for some people.

In terms of protein, Naked Mass has a whey and casein formula, whereas Serious Mass utilises calcium casein as well as whey. The advantage of having a fast-acting protein source (whey) and a slow-digesting one (calcium caseinate and casein) is that your muscles will be drip-fed amino acids over a longer period of time, which some people feel is better for hypertrophy.

Casein and calcium caseinate are comparable protein sources, so you don’t need to worry about one being better than the other.

Which Tastes Better, Naked Mass or Serious Mass?

A side by side Naked Mass vs Serious Mass comparison

Naked Mass is available in chocolate and vanilla flavours, as well as the unflavoured option. But does it taste as good as Serious Mass?

Honestly? I’d say they’re about equal. Maybe Serious Mass has a slight edge, but that could just be because I’m more used to it, having taken it on multiple occasions over the years.

I mixed up both shakes in a blender with water and then with milk, and while they were thick, I didn’t experience any clumping, so I don’t have any complaints.

I don’t think either Naked Mass or Serious Mass are going to win any awards for amazing taste, but the shakes are still drinkable, and when you use milk, they’re quite tasty.

One advantage that Serious Mass does have over Naked Mass is that it has a much larger flavour selection.

However, Naked Mass doesn’t use artificial sweeteners, instead opting for organic coconut sugar and organic cacao powder for their chocolate shake, making it a healthier option.

Which Is Better For Gaining Weight, Serious Mass or Naked Mass?

Image showing what Naked Mass and Serious Mass look like

Since both supplements have virtually the same amount of calories, carbs, protein, and fats, I can’t really say that one is more effective than the other for gaining weight.

Whichever one you can drink consistently is the best choice for gaining weight.

If price is a big factor for you, then you’re going to get more value from Serious Mass because it’s cheaper than Naked Mass.

If you get the chocolate version of Naked Mass, then you do get 1360 calories, which is 100 more than Serious Mass. It’s a small difference, but if you want all the extra calories you can get, you might want to go for chocolate Naked Mass, which is a very popular choice.

If you really can’t decide which one to get, you could always buy a tub of each to try them out for yourself and do your own comparison. This way, you can see how they compare in terms of taste, digestion, and overall effectiveness.

Serious Mass vs Naked Mass: The Verdict

Hopefully, my Naked Mass vs Serious Mass comparison helped you decide which of these two weight gainers is right for you.

I think Naked Mass has the edge in terms of ingredient quality because it uses organic tapioca maltodextrin and grass-fed protein from small US dairy farms. So, while it’s considerably more expensive than Serious Mass, I do think that it’s the higher-quality option for those seeking a slightly more natural supplement.

Serious Mass, on the other hand, gives you loads of calories for a great price. While the maltodextrin might not be of the organic variety, the protein is top-quality, and sometimes, you just need a good, affordable source of calories when it comes to gaining weight, which is exactly what you get with Serious Mass.
