At a glance, Mutant Mass Extreme looks like the more bulked-up but less well-known older brother of the regular Mutant Mass Gainer.

Mutant Mass Extreme gainer is advertised as containing 2500 calories. But in order to get those calories, you actually need to take two servings (8 scoops!) with milk.

Although Mutant Mass Extreme is an undeniably effective gainer for packing on size, I much prefer the regular Mutant Mass, which, in my opinion, is actually a more hardcore supplement.

But in order to give this gainer a fair trial, I decided to do a detailed Mutant Mass Extreme review and comparison with the regular formula.

Pros
  • Boasts a staggering 2500 calories when mixed with milk
  • Contains 462g of carbs from different sources
  • Utilises 3 types of whey protein for a total of 60 grams
  • Tastes much better than the average weight gainer

Cons
  • Most people don’t need so many calories
  • The carbs-to-protein ratio is arguably excessive even for hardgainers
  • An 8-scoop serving requires a blender

Mutant Mass Extreme Ingredients and Nutrition

The Mutant Mass Extreme nutrition facts

It’s fair to say that Mutant Mass Extreme is absolutely calorie-packed. I mean, what other weight gainer has 2500 calories? Perhaps the Russian Bear Weight Gainer, but that’s about it.

Sure, those 2500 calories are 8 scoops mixed with milk, but it’s still impressive. Mutant is always pushing the boundaries of bodybuilding supplementation, and it shows with this nutrient-dense weight gainer.

In each fully-loaded 8-scoop serving (with water), you get 2140 calories, 4652g of carbs, 60g of protein, and 6g of fat.

A list of the Mutant Mass Extreme ingredients

The carbs come from maltodextrin, waxy maize starch, and sweet potato, so you’re getting both slow-digesting and fast-acting carbs here.

As for protein, Mutant equips this mass gainer with 3 types of whey protein: whey concentrates, whey isolates, and hydrolysed whey protein. This fast-acting whey protein trio makes Mutant Mass Extreme the ideal post-workout shake because the amino acids can get to work ASAP.

There are also healthy fats from pumpkin seeds, coconut oil, and avocado.

Mutant Mass Extreme 2500 Taste and Mixing

One thing that Mutant does better than most brands is flavouring. They’ve been in the supplement game for a long time now, and their production team really knows how to create great-tasting shakes.

You can get this Mutant Mass Gainer Extreme in Vanilla Ice Cream, Cookies & Cream, and Triple Chocolate, which is the flavour that I tried.

The taste is very similar to that of the original Mutant Mass, if a little sweeter.

When it comes to mixing, the general consensus is that Mutant Mass Extreme 2500 blends well and creates a smooth drink without any lumps or residue—if you just go with a 4-scoop serving

If you want to take 8 scoops at once, you’ll definitely need a blender to get a drinkable shake.

But honestly, almost everyone would do a good job splitting their shakes up (as Mutant recommends) because 2500 calories is a lot to consume in a single sitting, especially from a shake.

If you’re based in the UK and want to check out another great-tasting gainer, then I recommend giving Efectiv Mass a try. It’s loaded with bodybuilding nutrients and is really affordable too.

How and When To Use Mutant Mass Extreme 2500

To get the best results from this mass gainer, follow these guidelines on how and when to use it:

Directions on how to use Mutant Mass Extreme 2500
  1. Take Mutant Mass Extreme 2500 twice a day, as this will provide your body with the necessary calories and nutrients to build muscle. To be clear, that’s 4 scoops two times per day, not 8 scoops twice a day!
  2. Use 480 ml of water or low-fat milk as a base for mixing your mass gainer (always add the liquid first). This will help to make the shake smoother and easier to drink, but feel free to use more liquid if you wish—I do. Blend or shake the mixture for 20-30 seconds.
  3. Timing is everything, so try to consume your Mutant Mass Extreme 2500 shakes at strategic moments throughout your day. The best time to have one is after your workout session, as this is when your aching muscles are crying out for glycogen and amino acids. Another good time to drink up would be between meals to get in some extra calories.
  4. Consistency is crucial, so make sure you're taking Mutant Mass Extreme 2500 every day to see the best results. Also, gains take time to show, so give it a few months before assessing the supplement's true effectiveness.

Drawbacks of Mutant Mass Extreme Gainer

There are two main drawbacks to Mutant Mass Extreme Gainer; macros and calories.

Let me explain.

The carbs-to-protein ratio is off the charts. In my opinion, 60g of protein per 462g of carbs is too low, even for an extreme hardgainer.

Also, if you consume 8 scoops at once (or even just 4) there’s a chance that you might get an upset stomach because of the lactose and the sheer amount of calories. Obviously, this is true for any weight gainer, not just Mutant Mass Extreme.

The Mutant Mass Extreme scoop size

Additionally, if you’re taking 8 scoops a day, then Mutant Mass Gainer Extreme 2500 is going to quickly become expensive. Something to keep in mind if you’re bulking on a tight budget.

Next up in this Mutant Mass Extreme Gainer review is a comparison with the regular (and, in my opinion, superior) Mutant Mass formula.

I also did a review of the PVL Sport Gainer, which is a good, lower-calorie option for those who don’t need such a hardcore gainer.

Mutant Mass vs Mutant Mass Extreme

A side by side Mutant Mass vs Mutant Mass Extreme comparison

Mutant Mass vs Mutant Mass Extreme: What’s the difference, and which is better?

If you just want a quick recommendation, go for Mutant Mass.

But, for those who want a bit more detail, here’s a quick comparison.

  • Mutant Mass has a much better carbs-to-protein ratio than Mutant Mass Extreme.
  • Mutant Mass Extreme has more Calories than Mutant Mass if you use the full serving sizes.
  • Mutant Mass has around twice more protein per scoop than Mutant Mass Extreme.
  • Mutant Mass contains whey and casein, whereas Mutant Mass Extreme just uses whey.
  • Mutant Mass Contains rolled oats, Mutant Mass Extreme does not.
A Mutant Mass Extreme vs Mutant Mass comparison

So, while Mutant Mass Gainer Extreme 2500 is a good supplement for gaining weight, it’s not quite in the same league as the regular Mutant Mass.

But I can see what Mutant was trying to do. They wanted to make a mega-calorie shake that had way more carbs than protein so that hardgainers would have practically no choice but to put on size.

And honestly, it’s a good product; I just think that 2500 calories are overkill for most lifters, especially skinny guys.

Should You Buy This Mutant Mass Extreme Gainer?

The bag that I'm using for my Mutant Mass Extreme Gainer 2500 review

If you're looking to increase your body weight and ramp up your calorie intake, Mutant Mass Extreme Gainer 2500 could be a good option for you. It certainly meets or exceeds the calorie requirements of most gym-goers

As mentioned during my Mutant Mass Extreme review, the shakes also taste great, which is a big plus when you’re drinking them daily.

In summary, Mutant Mass Extreme Gainer is an effective supplement for those looking to build muscle mass and boost their caloric intake. However, I do feel that paying for all those carbs is a bit unnecessary. That’s why I recommend the regular Mutant Mass formula, which is one of the most effective options out there.
