In this quick and concise Carnivor Mass vs Serious Mass supplement showdown, I’ll be comparing the most popular product in the mass gainer category, Optimum Nutrition Serious Mass, against a very unique weight gainer in MuscleMeds Carnivor Mass.

While the Carnivor Mass reviews are a bit mixed with regard to taste, mixability, and digestion, the same is true for Serious Mass, so it just goes to show that no one weight gainer is ideal for every gym-goer.

Carnivor Mass vs Serious Mass: Key Differences

A Carnivor Mass vs Serious Mass comparison

These are the key differences between Serious Mass and Carnivor Mass. As you can see, we have two very different products on our hands!

  • Carnivor Mass has 710 calories, whereas Serious Mass has 1263 calories.
  • Carnivor Mass has 50g of hydrolyzed beef protein, whereas Serious Mass has 50g of protein from whey and calcium caseinate.
  • Carnivor Mass provides 122g of carbs, while Serious Mass gives you 251g of carbs.
  • Carnivor Mass is free from lactose, gluten, sugar, and cholesterol, whereas Serious Mass isn’t.
  • Serious Mass tastes better than Carnivor Mass, in my opinion.
  • Carnivor Mass has a more innovative formula (iSpike technology, micronparticulated carbs, beef protein), whereas Serious Mass has a simple but more tried and tested formulation.
  • One serving of Carnivor Mass is 187.7g, while one serving of Serious Mass is 334g.
  • A tub of Carnivor Mass has almost twice as many servings as a tub of Serious Mass. However, Serious Mass is cheaper than Carnivor Mass.

Given these differences, I’d say that beginners should definitely stick with Serious Mass because it’s a simple yet effective supplement that’s worked for thousands of people.

But, if you’ve been in the gym for a while and want the fastest possible nutrient uptake to your muscles, then MuscleMeds Carnivor Mass is a fantastic choice for bulking up.

I’d say that Serious Mass has the edge on taste. However, Carnivor Mass doesn’t have any lactose, so it might be easier on the stomach for some people.

Which Is Most Effective For Gaining Weight?

A side by side comparison of Serious Mass and Carnivor Mass

Weight gain comes down to your overall calorie surplus rather than the macros of a particular supplement. However, with more than 550 extra calories on Carnivor Mass, Serious Mass definitely makes it easier to get your body in a calorie surplus.

That said, not everyone needs a 1200-calorie shake. Indeed, such a calorie-dense weight gainer could potentially lead to unwanted fat gain if it results in an excessive calorie surplus. So it really comes down to your personal calorie needs, how active you are, and how much weight you have to gain.

It’s interesting to note that, despite having 550 fewer calories than Serious Mass, Carnivor Mass actually has the same amount of protein, which shows just how protein-dense Carnivor Mass really is.

Both whey protein and beef protein are quality protein sources that produce comparable results. The difference is that the protein (and carbs) in Carnivor Mass are rapidly absorbed, creating a larger insulin spike and getting the muscle-building process started sooner.

On the other hand, Serious Mass has calcium caseinate, a slow-digesting protein, in addition to whey. As a result, your muscles will stay in an anabolic state for longer than with Carnivor Mass because you’re getting amino acids basically drip-fed over a longer period of time.

Which Has The Better Quality Ingredients?

Back view of Carnivor Mass and Serious Mass

Both Optimum Nutrition and MuscleMeds are known within the supplement industry as leaders in quality and pioneers in supplement innovation.

With this in mind, I think that Carnivor Mass has a unique formula that will work wonders for some people, but Serious Mass has a tried and tested formula that works pretty well for just about anyone.

Although Carnivor Mass utilises iSpike technology to create a massive post-workout insulin spike, this isn’t, in my opinion, going to make or break your progress, especially not if you’re a beginner.

However, if you're already training hard and if your diet is on point, then I can see how the fast-digesting ingredients in Carnivor Mass make a perfect post-workout shake.

Additionally, Carnivor Mass has absolutely no sugar and only 2g of fat, so you could say that it’s a slightly cleaner supplement than Serious Mass, which has 26g of sugar and 2.4g of fat.

Honestly, though, 26g of sugar for 251g of carbs isn’t bad at all!

Due to the beef protein, Carnivor Mass has naturally occurring creatine, although we don’t know the exact dose. On the other hand, Serious Mass has 3 grams of creatine, which isn’t bad, but I would have preferred to see a full 5-gram dose given the frankly huge serving size.

Which One Tastes Better?

The scoops from MuscleMeds Carnivor Mass and Optimum Nutrition Serious Mass

Given the beef protein in Carnivor Mass, I was expecting the taste to be quite bad. But surprisingly, the taste was okay, and the shakes were certainly drinkable.

Serious Mass definitely gets higher marks for taste, although the shakes are larger due to the big 334g serving size.

Both Serious Mass and Carnivor Mass pretty much need to be mixed in a blender (or shaken very vigorously) if you want to enjoy a shake with a smooth, lump-free consistency.

Obviously, these are just my opinions on the taste. You might have a totally different opinion because taste is subjective, so all you can really do is give one or both of the supplements a try and see how you like them.

Just bear in mind that, based on my experience, supplement flavours tend to grow on you the more you drink them, so it can take a while to get used to the taste of your new mass gainer.

Carnivor Mass vs Serious Mass: The Verdict

Overhead view of Carnivor Mass and Serious Mass

As you probably gathered from reading my Carnivor Mass vs Serioius Mass comparison, I’m definitely a big fan of both products. But, as I said, they’re very different.

If you’re trying to eke out every morsel of muscle growth and want a rapidly absorbing post-workout shake with hydrolyzed beef protein, then MuscleMeds Carnivor Mass is the way to go.

If you just want a simple mass gainer that does the job and helps you gain weight quickly, then Serious Mass is a great choice that’s backed by thousands of happy users.
