There you have it; you think you’ve found the best mass gainer, and you’re excited to make some gains. But then you check the label and see Gluten in big, bold letters.

This is where I hope to help.

I got my hands on over 70 mass gainers and decided to find the best gluten-free weight gainer in the UK for safely increasing your body mass.

Even if you’re not based in the UK, some of these gluten-free mass gainers are still available in countries like the US, so hopefully, this guide helps a lot of people!

Top 5 Gluten-Free Mass Gainers in the UK in 2023

To help me with the testing, I recruited my gluten-intolerant friend. He tried each of these mass gainers for 3-4 days and reported no negative side effects. So while I can’t make any guarantees, these gluten-free weight gainers should be easy on your stomach.

1. Crazy Nutrition Mass Gainer — Best For Getting Big

Two bags of Crazy Nutrition Mass Gainer

If you want to get big without putting your stomach through misery and discomfort, then I highly recommend getting Crazy Nutrition Mass Gainer, which has been my go-to weight gainer for well over 2 years now.

Unlike other weight gainers, Crazy Nutrition Mass Gainer utilises gluten-free oats so that you can gain weight and bulk up without experiencing any nasty side effects.

Even though Mass Gainer from Crazy Nutrition is a hardcore supplement in terms of its potency and effectiveness, it has a very simple ingredient list that’s free from fillers and impurities.

You get a scientifically optimal 40g serving of protein in each shake, which is made yet more effective by the fact that the protein is derived from both fast-acting and slow-release sources, enabling your body to stay in an anabolic rather than catabolic state.

As I mentioned in my Crazy Nutrition Mass Gainer review, another stand-out feature (besides the low sugar content) is the welcomed addition of digestive enzymes.

Not only will these enzymes aid your digestion, but they’ll also help your body to make the best possible use of all the nutrients that you’re consuming, which ultimately enables you to gain muscle mass faster and more efficiently.

  • Each serving has 55g of clean carbs from gluten-free oats
  • You get 40g of fast-acting and slow-release protein for optimal muscle growth
  • The sugar content (7.5g) is very low for a mass gainer with 488 calories
  • Includes zinc and magnesium for healthy hormones and proper muscle function
  • Formulated with digestive enzymes for better nutrient absorption and gastrointestinal health
  • Not the cheapest

2. Transparent Labs Mass Gainer — Best Organic Option

A tub of mass gainer from Transparent Labs along with a shaker cup and scoop

Transparent Labs Mass Gainer is the best gluten-free mass gainer for those seeking a high-calorie option with organic carbohydrates.

Even though this supplement uses maltodextrin as the sole carb source, this isn’t your typical wheat-derived maltodextrin that causes unpleasant side effects.

Transparent Labs uses organic tapioca maltodextrin so that you can get the calories you need without the stomach discomfort and debilitating side effects.

Also, with 53g of whey protein from grass-fed cows, you’re getting a 2:1 carb-to-protein ratio, which many people believe to be optimal for gaining muscle mass.

Add in the 14g of healthy fats from MCTs and coconut powder, and you can see why Transparent Labs Mass Gainer is one of the best gluten-free weight gainers on the market today.

A rock-solid 750-calorie formula that’s gone through extensive third-party testing makes this weight gainer hard to beat. The only real downside (for us Brits) is that shipping to the UK, while not extremely expensive, isn’t exactly cheap, either.

Feel free to check out my Transparent Labs Mass Gainer reviews page for a full analysis, or just click below to get the best price from the official supplement manufacturer.

  • The 110g of carbs come from gluten-free organic tapioca maltodextrin
  • Has 53g of whey protein from grass-fed cows
  • Contains 14g of nutritious fats from MCTs and coconut milk powder
  • Great taste for a mass gainer, and excellent mixability for a 750-calorie shake
  • It’s pricier than other gluten-free weight gainers
  • Shipping to the UK can cost quite a bit

3. MaxiMuscle Progain — Most Popular in the UK

MaxiMuscle Progain is a firm UK favourite thanks to its nutrient-dense, 510-calorie formula that consists of 38g of protein, 14g of BCAAs, 53g of carbs, and 14g of fat.

With macros like this, your body will have practically no choice but to build muscle (as long as you do the work in the gym!).

Free from gluten and soy, Progain uses top-quality protein sources like whey (70%) and calcium caseinate (30%) so that you can get both fast-acting protein and slow-release amino acids, helping your body to stay in a muscle-building state for longer.

Although some people think that fat is the enemy, we actually need fats for hormone production and overall health, so I’m pleased to see that MaxiNutrition doesn’t shy away from including a good amount of healthy fat in Progain.

I’m especially impressed with how easily Progain mixes (given it has over 500 calories) and how great it tastes (given that it only has 5.7g of sugar).

This supplement is an excellent all-rounder that’s suitable for just about anyone seeking the best gluten-free mass gainer. If you’d like to learn more, you can see my full MaxiMuscle Progain review, or if you’d like to get started right away, you can click below for the best UK price.

  • Contains 510 gluten-free calories per serving
  • Contains 38g of protein; 70% from whey, 30% from calcium caseinate
  • Has a healthy 14g of fat per serving for hormone production and balanced macros
  • Only has 5.7g of sugar (and yet tastes great)
  • Has excellent mixability and no clumps
  • It’s quite expensive

4. PE Nutrition Performance Gainer — Great Value

A bag of PE Nutrition Performance Gainer in chocolate

PE Nutrition might not be a big-name supplement brand with a loyal following, but for our purposes, that’s actually a good thing because it means we get a great gluten-free weight gainer protein for a fair price.

One bag has 20 servings, and each shake gets you 451 gluten-free calories, which is an ideal amount for most people to create a healthy calorie surplus.

These calories are broken down into 69.5g of carbs—derived from both quick-release and slow-digesting sources—25g of whey protein and 6g of fats from MCTs.

While slightly more protein would have been better, carbs are what really help you to achieve that calorie surplus, so I’m glad to see that this gluten-free mass gainer has more carbohydrates than protein.

Although not everyone liked the taste, I thought that it was pretty tasty for a weight gainer, and it certainly does mix well, which helps with the texture.

If you’d like to find out more, you can check out my full PE Nutrition Performance Gainer review

  • One shake has 451 calories for building muscle
  • Includes nearly 70g of carbs from fast-acting and slow-release sources
  • Uses 25g of quality whey protein per serving
  • You get 20 big servings per bag
  • The taste has mixed reviews
  • Slightly more protein would have been ideal

5. Naked Mass — Highest Calorie

Naked Mass

Naked Mass is one of the best gluten-free weight gainers available because it has absolutely nothing to hide. I mean, the unflavoured version has just 3 ingredients!

Even though it’s pricey, this supplement is very popular in the US, although it can be hard to source from the UK.

In terms of ingredients, I think the motto is “simple yet effective” because we get 252g of carbs from organic tapioca maltodextrin and 50g of grass-fed whey protein and casein protein (from small US farms).

While 252g of carbohydrates might be too much for some people, you could always split the servings in half to make them more manageable and improve your digestion.

As I noted in my Naked Mass review, one container only has 11 servings, which isn’t a lot. But considering that this third-party tested gluten-free weight gainer contains really clean ingredients, it might be worth the cost for some people.

  • Provides hardgainers with a big 1250 calorie serving per shake
  • Has 50g of grass-fed whey and casein protein from small dairy farms
  • Contains 252g of gluten-free carbs from organic tapioca maltodextrin
  • Has a simple, filler-free formula that’s extensively tested
  • Contains 11.5g of naturally occurring BCAAs
  • Only 11 servings per container
  • It’s expensive

Why Should You Avoid Weight Gainers That Contain Gluten?

The best gluten-free weight gainers in the UK

A little bit of gluten here and there might not do some people any harm, but when you’re gluten-intolerant, you can experience unpleasant side effects from consuming gluten, such as diarrhoea and joint pain.

Also, supplement companies that use gluten in their weight gainers might be more likely to include filler ingredients in their formulas, which is not good for building muscle and staying healthy.

At the same time, you still need a gluten-free mass gainer that can actually get you results, and I hope I’ve been able to help you find one!

I also have a separate guide if you’re looking for a mass gainer that's lactose free.

Conclusion: Which Gluten-Free Mass Gainer Should You Buy?

The best gluten-free mass gainers in the UK

While there are a few good gluten-free weight gainers on the market, the best of the bunch are Crazy Nutrition Mass Gainer and Transparent Labs Mass Gainer.

Available in both the UK and the US, these supplements are both highly effective for gaining weight because they’re high-carb and protein-dense.

The main difference is that Crazy Nutrition uses gluten-free oats (slow-digesting), whereas Transparent Labs uses organic tapioca maltodextrin (fast-absorbing).

Also, Crazy Nutrition is a bit cheaper than Transparent Labs (especially when you subscribe and save), which could be a deciding factor if you’re trying to gain weight on a budget.
